Recently, I discovered that a friend of mine of about 17 years has been dead for over 2 years, and I didn’t know simply because I see his work anniversary on LinkedIn and birthday notification on Facebook. I assumed he was fine.
I have always procrastinated about visiting him and meeting his family until one day, again I got his birthday notification on Facebook, and I sent him a happy birthday message, only for someone to inbox me that he was dead. That day I felt so guilty and ashamed of myself as a friend.
Social Media gives you a false feeling that you are keeping in touch when you are not. We get so busy and forget what is most important; friends and family. So these days whenever I think of someone I just simply pick up my phone to call or text to check up on them, even if I have nothing to say but ‘Hi’.
Please keep in touch with your friends and family when you still can.
